Hi all,

Was just under the front of the RR checking the airbags and happened to notice a bolt missing from the sump. The internal thread looks quite clean so I'm guessing it as only recently vanished as it were. I'm not entirely sure on its purpose tho. From the workshop manual, it looks to be bolt 39.

Any ideas?

Is it not just a sump bolt like all the rest of them thats just come loose

just a suggestion
 
It's slap bang in the middle at the front, out on its own, not part of the other bolts I can see.
 
Do ranges have wading plugs like fenders? This crops up a lot in the fender threads and is usually just the wading plug which should have no bolt in.

I don't know about Range Rovers though

Well, that's the thing. Looking at the diagrams, I can't see what it's actually supposed to be doing, if anything!
 
Stick a bolt in. Im sure its just sump to timing chain/front cover. May help with your oil weeapage

I doubt it, oil is clearly coming from front oil seal. Standard practice is to clean area run engine a watch for leakage. As far as i can see from parts lists/manuals there is no sump bolt in that area.
 
have googled various images and I can see other sumps with the same threaded hole.

I wonder if it's just for an optional undertray or something?

Certainly no fastener in that position on any diagram i have seen. On your photo are there not two more spare holes full of ****e in the sump flange, one to the right and one to the left of the right and left nuts on that, flange have a poke. Think your front oil seal is a bigger priority.

Okay, looking to get the front oil seal done first. My usual mechanic has said "not for me, sorry"...which is always comforting.
