Have just replaced the a/c condenser with one from Island 4X4. Unfortunately, this was not supplied with O rings.

Messrs Halfords have a kit of O-rings for £3.29

Halfords | Halfords Air Con 'O' Rings

and assert that they will recharge the system for £9.99!!! (see under wecheck on the same page)

No oil apparent in the new condenser. Is there a recommended lube for this type of ring before the gassing and, hopefully, freezing conditions?

Well, it grabbed your attention as intended even if the reply was not as useful as hoped for.

Usually a little of the oil that goes in the system. But a little silicone grease would be ok.

So KY's no good. I was thinking that if it's good enough for human gizzards...........

Ky is water based so would do, anything that gets them to seat basically. Washing up liquid is good.

So Tony if I have no KY jelly then fairy liquid will do? Does it matter about the fragrance? I prefer the lemon stuff but her in doors likes the original....

Right. Went off to Halfords, got O rings and completed condenser job in their car park. Why do they have to make things so bloody inaccessible on cars.

Gassed up. Slight cooling of air and Nanocom reported a clutch fault.

Brought it home. Fault has now cleared but air is cool to luke-warm. No book symbol - hurrah!

No faults showing.

With the clutch working, is the pressure likely to have dropped and a further re-gas needed?

Also, I was a bit surprised that the electric fans weren't giving it welly. When do they cut in? Fuse number to save me a couple of mins.

If the viscous is working, the electric fans almost never cut in:)
