Afternoon,

I've got a really annoying whining noise coming from the back middle/passenger side of the car. It starts off low and gets higher pitched as I accelerate and then lower in pitch and volume as I slow down. I've drained and replaced the rear diff oil and is holding fine. It has got gradually worse/louder over the last few months and now is getting so loud I can hear it even with the windows up.

There is no play in the rear passenger side wheel, so kind of hints that is not a wheel bearing???

I really need some help with this as I don't want a dead rangie in a couple of weeks!!

Thanks

could be anything, dry u/j's, wheel bearing, transfer box. Get your grease gun out, do the u/j's and sliders, check the t/box oil level and check the w/bearings for starters.:)

I think Tomcat's suggestion is what I'd start with. Grease everything and change all fluids: both diffs, gearbox and transfer box. After that things get more expensive!

Have greased everything, changed diff oil and nothing looks to be coming out of the transfer box....
Would there be a massive problem if I removed the rear prop and ran it front wheel drive for a bit???

Did you check transfer box oil level? You don't need play in a wheel bearing for it to make noise. Have you checked diff pinion for play?

If nothing is coming out, put something in, before its to late. Or perhaps it is :(:)
