Was coming home last night, driving up the hill to the house when I heard a 'knock' come from the rear of the Disco, followed by what sounds like a kind of rattle from below the auto gear selector. She seems to drive ok, just that this noise has appeared - worried it might be from gearbox. Any ideas?

Does it sound like an in box rattle ? It'd be pretty muffled if it was inside the box.....get under and have a look at the linkages , the t box and difflock included

Not really, probably just under the disco. Will have a look in morning.

my hand brake casing rattles at 1500 rpm quite annoying and an easy fix if its that. just need to get round to it as its low down on my list.

Could it be the cat breaking up and shooting through the pipes towards the back?

I hear that can happen

Seems it is the turbo packing up. If anyone has one I have cash waiting.

I got half way through posting that earlier but thought it too cruel to suggest and blanked it .....sorry !

I had one break up (turbo) on the exhuast side and exit red hot through the tail pipe , the oil seals went and all the oil burned out in minutes , luckily I stopped it before it stopped me ....with a replacement turbo it was fine ....hence I now have no spare ...sorry !

if you search I had a thread last year about turbo rebuilding ....you can get the kit for about £60 , IIRC

I have one here althou it will need new bearings as they scream. Yours for free if you want it.

Cheers, although speed is of the essence on this one so no time to rebuild. Need a replacement unit to 'plug and play'.
