 Help please. Disco 1 2" lift 265/75/16's muds. Just put on extended wheel arches. Now to try see if there catching. Whilst on mud and a few hills. Had it in diff lock low. turned ok also in diff lock high. No problem. (on mud/grass) Now coming off fields. steep banking onto tarmac. Everything was ok till i reached tarmac and turned. To hear a clicking sound. thought it was from the font. But when I wound down windows. It seamed to be coming from middle of car. Now I tried it in high lock. Same but not as bad. Out of lock in both high and low. everything is fine. Any one had similar. I must add its also fine in a straight line in lock. Bit puzzled. Cheers.

But why have you got the diff lock engaged on tarmac?

The diff lock should really only be used on slippery surfaces not tarmac unless its covered in snow and ice.

It sounds although your cv one or both are on their way out fill with grease ASAP and they will last a while. Only in diff lock because your trans windup is putting more stress than usual through the transmission. A lot of strain goes through when you

A have grip,
B have the centre diff locked,

Although not advised if the motor is in gwo a short session in centre diff lock on Tarmac should be ok. More often that not on tight slow low range corners you get skipping wheel slip inside rear spins and loses grip making a noise but its not a clicking noise.

Thankyou for the in depth reply Jai. reason I was in low diff lock was as I said. Coming off muddy hills and fields. Just messing and seeing if wheels were catching in new arches. Coming off the mud there's a very steep slope so kept it in low locked on way down as I drove onto tarmac (car park) I had to turn to the right That's when I heard the clicking. so thought I'd Idle it around to investigate and see what makes a difference. Thanks to Jai I now know the reason. Much appreciated.
