2002 Disco TD5 - When cold the gear lever operates as it should but after about 50 miles of driving it becomes very sticky when moving across neutral and is especially noticeable when changing down from 5th - it doesn't automatically fall in line with 3rd/4th, the same hapens when moving off from rest and changing from 2nd to 3rd. The gearbox oil level is ok - any help would be much appreciated.

Did anyone investigate or come across this? My 2002 Disco 2 had the same problem. Fine when cold, but when run on a motorway for 15 minutes or so the gearstick was like it was dipped in thick treacle (and warm down the shaft?)

I had had my oil changed at a local garage that informed me they always used semi-synthetic etc

When I dropped the oil and re-filled it myself the problem went away.

Just recently I forgot about the issue and had the oil chnaged again by same garage. Gearstick doing it again. So it must be an issue with the oil spec.

I never successfully resolved the problem - ended up selling her because of it, but you're diagnosis would seem to be the cure.

By the way what type/grade of oil did you use?
