Hi folks,Anyone know how to remove sticking brake calliper pots from the calliper. They are fully retracted and won't budge with an air line on the brake line.








Just wondering if I can get them out to replace or if I need a new(ish) calliper.

I think you'd have to split the caliper, then clean it spotlessly before fitting new seals & pistons ... do-able and time consuming or get 2 new uns (non-genuine) for about £100...
 
I had one that was really stuck, so I put unlocking fluid in the hole and then slowly worked it with pliers. Sometimes if you keep jolting air through it; it will eventually come away. Some folk have forced grease in with the gun - a bit messy, but seems to work
 
When my rear caliper piston did this, I took the pads out, put the caliper back on the disco and pressed the brake .. worked first try! .. ;)

New piston and seals work way, way better than trying to clean the old corroded piston ..
 
I am thinking of fitting new callipers but I need to find out which are actually fitted to mine. The early ones seem to be double the price of slightly later ones. RTC 3380 cost a fortune!

What Disco have you got 200 or 300 series? Your chassis no. should provide the correct caliper needed if you look on any parts website.

RTC3380 are not for Disco's :confused:
 
It's a 1985 or 90. It has a 200 tdi disco conversion and rear axle just to confuse matters. The calliper looks the same as the RTC 3380. The cheaper 4998 looks similar and the only difference I can see is that it doesn't split. Would these fit?

The axle no is 22L 02095A and the chassis is AA 224114 which looks to be very early.

eh? it can't be a 1985, they didn't exist until 1989!!
 
If it's still on the vehicle clamp the pistons that move and keep pressing the brake until the stuck one moves

It's a bit difficult when they are fully retracted, I just done mine and I used compressed air, I split the caliper then clamping the moving ones pushed out the stuck ones, if you do it this way put some rag over the piston you are trying to move, they fly really far if not :D
