It was all going so well but there is a wobble becoming apparent around 25 mph when not under load. At that speed, I don't think it is a wheel out of balance so am getting nervous that this is going to get pricey.

Are track rod ends a likely cause?

Could be a bit of both. :p:p

Start with the simple things. Tyre pressure. Then go to damper, track rod, drag link, adjustment of play in steering box. Any one of them could cause it. :)
 
I'll assume that you've checked that your wheels are nailed on tightly with the correct number of nails?
 
It turned out to be tyre distortion. Mechanical mate diagnosed it in minutes.

So off confidently to MOT today in the knowledge that track rod, drag link, bearings and CVs were in order.
