Hi

whats the best way to remove the airbag and wheel on a 97 P38 please ?

Have got me a nice wood / leather one for the old girl will look dead posh me:)

yeah, disconnect the batter for min 10 mins (i always leave it for min 30 mins) the put the keys in the ignition to unlock the steering. at the rear of the wheel there are 4 bolts which are undone by a T10 i think. after you remove them the airbag will become loose. then remove the small red block connector from the rear of the air bag. store this carefully. unbolt the steering wheel. ( i mark colum so as you know when you put the new wheel on that it is pointing in the correct direction.) remove the steering wheel and be careful of the rotary coupler. remove the connectors from the steering wheel.

now reverse the last procedure to refit the new steering wheel.

hope that helps

Hi

will give it a go when the new wheel arrives, why do you have to waite 10 / 30 mins after battery off ?

because even when the keys are out of the ignition the airbag can still go off causing severe damage or even death by tampering with it. so after the battery is disconnected it can hold a charge in the bag for up to 10 mins.

be careful, it can be a slightly dangerous if your not careful.

For the SRS back up battery to discharge, otherwise you are likely to get a FACE FULL OF AIRBAG WHEN IT EXPLODES:eek::eek::eek:

Just got me a nice new wheel, only next track buttons work. Hope new wheel and buttons fix this. Remember also not to remove centre bolt fully but only to loosen it before removing old wheel to save face full of steering wheel when it releases!!!
