My steering wheels got about 2 inches of play in it. I didnt notice till my dad saw how much i moved the wheel to correct motorway driving.

Would it just be my track rod ends? or steering bushes?

Also, how easy is it to re-center your steering wheel? pillock who did work on it when i got it made it off centre, bugging me!

cheers all

It sounds like you've just got play in your steering, on top of the steering box there's a grub screw with a lock nut. Jack the front end up get someone to turn the steering wheel lock to lock, slacken locknut and wind the grub screw in, but only bout 1/8 turn, then tighten locknut and test and redo the process until you've elimanated all the play.

You can drop the window down, with the car running stand outside and turn the wheel, and see how much the steering wheel turns before the actual wheels turn.

But yeah might be worth going ova rod ends and bushes, and check the drop link nut is tight.

If you do have to tighten the steering box you might find that it straightens the steerin wheel up.

before yu adjust anything - get someone to move your steering wheel from side to side whill you follow the steering system from the steering column through to the ends - and look for any incorrect movement.
