hi, i changed steering components a few months back one of which was a britpart steering damper.
when i go down potholes the steering will lurch in that direction (more than before). took the damper off, when pushed down onto the floor it drops 2+ inches before resistance. Is this normal or should i feel resistance straight away? I did prime before installation.

No its not normal, you should feel a resistance as soon as you pull/push in either direction.

Monroe or Armstrong are a good standard LR OEM parts round £17 to £20

Terrafirma hd (not sure i need these mainly do road driving) , bearmach, allmakes , bilstien (pricy but best) ?

Your Britpart item was faulty it happens unfortunately. LR pt. no. is QHH100001 which no doubt u already know
If it was me.... I'd go for the damper supplied Bearmach from your option list, but haven't a clue who the manufacture is, or any standard damper that the supplier states was OEM quality which with my quick search there doesn't seen any
