Hi all,
Just picked up a '98 DSE. Driver great, excellent condition, BUT....

Didn't adjust the steering column until I got home :eek: (Its a Manual Adjustment), and it now won't lock back in for the up and down tilt. but is fine with the forward / backward adjustment.

Does it just need some Lub!! :mad:

I had EXACTLY the same a couple of years back, went to adjust it & the bloody thing refused to re-lock, messed with it for ages, was getting a bit panicky as it was about to go away on a long trip, so I vigerously whacked it up & down whilst waggling the lever, & then somehow it locked, not really where I wanted it, but since it was finally locked, thats where it stayed, still there now!!!
 
Thanks, given it a good shake and a few whacks underneath, but it still will not lock it HELP!!!!!!!!!

Can I get access if I take the plastic cover off underneath?

Rob,

I had this problem when I bought a P38. After a bit of fiddling, it worked fine and did so thereafter.

Goods news, decided to take the plastic underneath the steering colunm off, followed the level and is now fixed :D

Didn't have time to take a picture, but basically the old grease had got a bit sticky / fluffy and it wasn't pushing the ball home correctly.

WD40, operating the level then pushing it home by hand a few times and all is working fine.
