hi
I am in the process of putting my 1990 discovery 4 door back on the road after a 10 year lay off,
I have another later model 93 as a donor, first job is a leaking box to replace and have noticed my earlier one
Has the ball joint on the drop arm and the later one doesn’t,
Is there any good reason to keep my existing setup or change the lot to the later type? Both cars had no problem with the steering except the leaking box on the earlier one,

Swap them over, the separate BJ in the steering bar makes it faster and more convenient when replacing them.

Thanks for that I’ll swap the lot over,
On the steering shaft to the box my existing one has a much more substantial rubber doughnut and UJs then the later one, But was a pig to get off, so a similar question stick with the original heavy duty one or the lighter one off the later car,

Use the later shaft, the idea was that it damped out any harsh kickback from the steering but the heavy duty power steering is remarkably resilient and doesn't kick back much at all, I fitted a later steering shaft as the UJs were in better condition and have not looked back.

Ok thanks for that,
but I will keep the earlier one as a spare as the UJs are in good nick

I actually like the old one on rough roads. Have seen the newer one snap more than once.

Ok I feel a swap coming on, the older type appears to be fractionally longer so more difficult to put
On, But the Rubber doughnut is much more substantial than the newer type ,
Thanks for the advice, i have no intention of green laneing her but in my world stronger is better
