Finally got around the replacing my leaky steering box this afternoon. the new one has only been sat on the bench since February!
Was a much quicker job than I remember, last time I did it on a running vehicle (rather than dismantled rebuild) it was helping a friend do one on his TD5 about 10 years ago and I remember it taking all day with lots of swearing! Just done mine in a couple of hours!

However it has raised a question that a quick skim through the parts manual hasn't answered.

The bracket on the steering box pictured below that goes into the pan rod mount, should this have a bush or similar as the hole in the mounting bracket is much much larger than the bolt spindle. I did not have anything fitted so have refitted with nothing, but do not know if that is correct or not. Seems a little odd if it is right as is "free to float", but with the four bolts through the chassis it should not move around in there anyway.

Put all 4 bolts into box.
put on steering arm
Turn steering(engine running) a few times
to center everything up

Then do that mounting bracket up.
No bushes etc on the thread just that big washer

Many thanks. That’s what I did. So happy with that.
Having now taken it for a drive I Need to have a closer look at it and see if it is contacting the steering guard. It has no play and feels good once moving. But it feels like There is more resistance than I would Expect to get it moving in the first place. But once moving moves smoothly to full lock.

Some do catch on the lip of the guards when the TRE rolls over. Have you still got a return to centre shock fitted ?
The 110 does not have an rtc damper. That was the td5. So just standard damper. The old box caught the bottom of the of the drop arm on the steering guard but the one previous one to that didn’t. So I will have a look in the morning and see if the same is happening. I ground the drop arm down a little on the last one. Only Needed about 0.5mm.
