I use a power probe for things like that saves sparks and girly comments about burnt fingers ;) but I don't expect many peeps round here have one.

An if they do they have one then they would be answering the questions like this not posting them!

Think i might have made some progress.

Might have overdone it on the cable, i used 10mm twin and earth from spade terminal to the positive on the battery and she tuned over straight away :)

So is it safe to say that the ignition switch is the likely culprit?
 
Well it looks that way..... You have a problem somewhere in the starter wiring, the most likely cayuse is the ignition switch.

You have already ordered one haven't you?

Fitted new switch yesterday and......................still the same:mad:

Any suggestions on what to try next?

Or is there anyone close enough that has more of an idea than me to come and help us out for beer tokens
 
Right. You can try a bridge wire( temporary only) from the starter position on the switch to the exciter terminal on the starter. This will show which section of the system is at fault.
 
When you say the starter position on the switch, do you mean one of the 7 spade connectors
on the new switch i just bought to the spade terminal on the starter?
 
Yep. If you connect a wire from new switch( you will need to tap into the wire rather than just connecting to the terminals) to the spade terminal on the starter

Do you have a multimeter or a test lamp?
 
right, ok. not got a multimeter, i'll have to get one .

Been tinkering around with everything and it started:confused: took it for a drive to recharge the battery. Got back home turned it on and of a few times, all ok then "click" here we go again
 
Just been looking the the electrical diagrams on RAVE. The black wire from the starter goes to the fuse box in the engine compartment. It goes through a relay and 3 fuses, could i have a iffy relay?

the quickest way is just fit another relay , borrow one (same colour ) from say rear window demist slot . or other non critical ( eg starting or fuel) position .
 
Good idea, i'll try that in the morning. R3 is the HDC relay, that will work.

That can't be much else left that can go wrong or to check. I've had no landy for over a week now.
 
I swapped the starter relay with the hdc relay and, CLICK!!

Don't know what to try/replace now...........
