I have a 2004 vintage TD4 Freelander :rolleyes:

I have a problem :confused:

I need help :eek:

I start her first thing, glow plug light goes out and she fires up straight away, if however I then pop to the shop and she stands for 5 mins the cow will not start.
Well she will but then she stops straight away because you cannot rev her until the charge light has gone out.
The glow plug light never seems to come on anymore after first start but I have been told thats normal (its a freelander what is normal?) ( come back TD5 all is forgiven!!!)
What I have found after a few attempts at starting and then stopping if you keep turning her over she will kick into life after about 10 seconds (maybe its the starter motor that is now warm and its warming the engine :D :D )
The other point is when she does fire up she adds to global warming with a smog of smelly diesel fumes which seem to hang in the air :mad:

Any ideas anyone :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

have you tried switching the ignition on and off a couple of times, then cranking the engine,
ie give the glowplugs a few chances to warm up
 
I have paid good money for said sensor, yes all of £56.oo worth (how do they justify that ????)
Its dead easy to change, just whip off the old top plastic cover (should say non metalic cover) and there it sits on the top left of the engine held in by a torx screw.
So far so good, if the problem is cured I will let you know

Hello. I had the same problem on a V6 petrol. Started on the button every day..when engine is cold. Pop to the shops for a newspaper and the bugger would not start (engine warm). When the engine warms up, the Cam Sensor jams shut and will not function again till the engine cools down. I replaced the cam sensor and it cured the problem. Jasper
 
Hi Ming, is the cam sensor the same as what rave call the CKP Sensor, because I can't seem to find a cam sensor. My landy is doing the same!!
 
OK earthling. . . . [.crankshaft position sensor ] td4 only mind ,its the start of electronic timing called [datum point] for some silly reason they tend to fail while warm [could be the electronics as its a npn device] nuff of that, td4 only lift up bonnet from centre of bonnet catchlock and look at front end of motor [with sound cowell off and you will see it ] it has a push in female plug and one torx screw and a oil seal [fit a new one if replacing]. . . . . . . . . .OK L SERIES ONLY ITS AT REAR OF ENGINE lhs near the engine to ird chassis plate, to remove you will have to undo the manifolds [its er reet pig] 1.8 un v6 i don't know look in rave , un Willa i don't know wot ckp stands for. . . . . .hope this helps you dumb earthlings. . . . .:) :) :) ;)

Well earthling Nick. . . .in a nutshell yes it will ,but here is the rub, and this is the big problem wiff friggin phooter diagnostics on motors , so techi professor mechanic plugs in his phooter stuff and See's all i/p un o/p are good super , checked on diagnostics sir un all is fine ,oh un ears yer big bill, [titter] . . . . .wot happens with some i/puts and o/puts is they can fail at a certain level be that temp , water ingress and a load of other environmental reasons, in the case of this sensor its bin recorded by quite a few members of LZ of crankshaft sensor failing when hot , then after it cools it werks agin. . . . . intermittent is the earth werd i fink :) :) :)
 
willa,,havent got rave with me , but camshaft sensor is cmp (i think )but wouldnt put money on it, it is shown but dont ask me where:)
 
ER. . . . .its the crankshaft sensor that gets the fault we are talking about not the camshaft sensor ,or have I lost the plot. . . . .:)
