Hi been a member for a while but never posted so here goes ,
Had the altenator changed on the wife's 04 freelander diesel since then had problems starting .it turns over but doesn't start straight away it ticks over very eratic if I switch off and start again it starts no problem
Changed the fuel filter thinking it may be fuel starvation , but still the same .
By the way after reading about the horrors of changing the fuel filter it went very well and did it in about an hour

You could have air in the high pressure lines. Do a search on google on how to bleed it. Very easy just takes a few mins to do.

possibly faulty injector, leak back test would prove/disprove

just found slight leak from around fuel filter area going to check fittings so i think maybe sucking air into system or draining back.If the clips on fittings are leaking can you buy new ones and how much approx
