Newish belt and tensioner, branded parts. Brand new battery

Just done 140 miles and now it squeaks after startup and under low load.

Engine voltage at idle around 12.4 to 12.8 volts (Hawkeye)

Is this alternator?

mine did this with a continental, with a Dayco also, so i changed the tensioner, still did it, got a Genuine Landrover belt, been great ever since, 6 months no more squeaks

Dayco are also one of the Land Rover suppliers (OEM) so maybe you were just unlucky to have a problem with their belt.
But saying that, my original belt was slightly thicker than the Dayco belt I purchase, as my replacement from a supplier on eBay and now used without problems... I know it's a diffent belt as one belt does all for mine.

local auto factors, Dayco and conti squeaked, Genuine Landrover cured it cos it did my head in, Genuine belt was thicker and did the trick, so no bad luck, aftermarket parts weren't as good in this problem!

Same with me. I found the aftermarket ones were smoother on the outside (non-ribbed side) and this runs on the PAS pulley which made me wonder if that was the problem. New genuine tensioner went on as well just to be on the safe side.

Alternator pulley could be worn. Alternator is weak. Check volts across battery should be depending on year, a minimum of 13.8.

Idle is mid 12s

See you have a TD5 Disco II on that i would expect 14.2 volts minimum charge rate just after start up. Switch all the lights and fans on and rev engine to 2000 RPM, you should see 14.2 across the battery. If not change the brushes and controller. Subject to slip rings being serviceable. Otherwise service exchange alternator. Mid 12s is not good enough.

At 2000rpm mid 13s

Depends on year but most cars after say around 2000 will have 14.2 minimum and later ones 14.5/14.8 or up to 15 to cope with full calcium batteries. If your battery after standing for a while engine off is at 12.6 or so then battery should be fine. But charge rate does seem a little low to me. Alternator does sound to be a little weak.

Oh well I will ask my MOT mechanic to test it and see about swapping it (nowhere dry for me to work on it at the moment).

Sounds silly but messy tasks in winter I will leave to professionals if it involves getting wet. but I would rather do engine work myself.

Last trip underneath was to try to sort out the CDL mech, but did that from inside the cabin in the end.

BTW I never trusted said mechanic with my last cars cam belt as he said he didn't need the kit, as I also said do not code read this anymore as my code reader is better.

Not really familiar with TD5 stuff but I know on my old 300Tdi the auxiliary, (A/C belt), gives a squeak under similar circumstances to what you've described when the belt tension is not absolutely tight, I mean tighter than you would think necessary, "twang" tight.
But that is a manual adjustable tensioner, not sure if Td5 is manual adjust or spring loaded as main belt on 300Tdi.
