Can anybody recommend some suspension heavy duty spring compressors, I have some work to do on the front suspension on my defender. There seems to be a wide choice (shopping on flea bay). Mostly sets of two, so I might need to buy two sets to make a set of 3?

2 per spring is OK. I've purchased 2 sets over the years, first set were not so good, kept slipping. Second set were much better.
I'll get a pic...bear with.

Get the clam style...

I paid 75 for mine on ebay... I tried 3 other types and its not worth the headache. Never felt safer with these and gives so much more space.

In my dodgier days

Rubbish type on the left
Excellent type on the right.

As per @ER1C I have that type and they are great, but more suitable for off the vehicle springs. I'm have both types for different work but two of the @Flossie recommended ones are fine. It’s all about correct placement and balancing the tension.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated. I have ordered a set of these ----

I think my pair are more or less the same as those, supposedly heavy duty... Only used them to get one spring out and back in so far, didn't seem the best but they got the job done, along with pry bars and dropping the axle as low as possible.

I'm gonna need to break them out again soon as I've just got a new set of springs.
