Greetings to you all.
Range Rover Vogue Se - 2007
I had a break down on Sunday, lost all power, not even the hazards would work nor the boot or glove compartment open. Not good when the break down info is stored in it.
Long story short. Landover Tech came out, could not fix so recovery trucked to local dealer.
Faults found Alternator short and now battery u/s….Alternator under warranty…good good…however the new battery I had to pay for £145 Beer Tokens!...Disagreed with this as the Alternator caused the fault then drained my battery…."warranty does not cover batteries Sir" Final answer and don’t phone a friend or ask the audience
!.
Apologies for going on…I will get to the question now.
When I picked the car up this morning I noticed that on the dash display the text " Special program OFF" I have not seen this before on start up so asked the question what does this mean. Answer from the dealer was that it means that the special terrain programs are off. This is normal until you select the mode you want…..snow…gravel…ect"!....
So the question is….Is this information correct…why have I just seen this now, when I have had the car for 8 months and never seen it? I have also read on the internet that the special program cannot be switch off….and on start up the special terrain setting defaults to normal anyway…..so if you cannot turn it off….why would it say special program OFF?

Well that’s it….apologies for the war and peace:blabla:. Over to you guys for any words of wisdom.
Chris

My TDV8 gives me the special program off message when I switch it back to 'normal'. Never had the message on start up.

Check your warranty re the battery, it maybe covered, the stealer my just be trying it on.

Andy, Thanks for the note....The problem is the dealer has just installed the new battery....and handed the car back...with this message coming up....i think i will call another dealer and get the view from them....will revert.

It could be due to the new battery not being fully charged when it was fitted. After the car has had a good run and charged it right up the message should not show.(The intstrument pack will show certain things shutting down as battery voltage drops down,it tries to keep essential things going for as long as possible. The infotainment system for example should be the first thing to shut down.)

If the alternator took out the battery then they are liable for the battery.

I asked to speak to the Warranty people while I was sat at the dealership regarding the battery. The outcome was the warranty does not cover the car for any secondary faults. i.e. the main fault was the Alternator and to be honest I was due to purchase a new battery anyway.

Cheers

I have just got back in after lunch and the message on the display screen has now stopped saying SPECIAL PROGRAM OFF
So I think you may be correct in the battery not yet fully charged….Makes you think why my original question to the dealer was answered with It should come on, it's normal….Would a load

No disrespect to anyone on here who may be a LR Technician...but nowadays they are more inclined to fit rather than fix....and then palm BS onto the owner.....

And now comes the damning statement.....I would say 75% of L322's are driven by those who know nothing about Land Rovers or Range Rover...they buy them because it looks good to the neighbours or business colleagues...not because they are a class leading 4x4, or filled with a 60+ year heritage in off roading or design....

So the Technicians/Managers assume the owners don't know anything and will palm of any BS to keep them quiet.....

I was once waiting in a local LR & Jaguar Dealers Parts Office, and a chap walks in and asks for something (can't remember what) the guy behind the desk asked if it was a Land Rover or Jaguar, he said no it was Range Rover, he asked him what model, he said a red one, he asked what year the vehicle was, he didn't have a clue and said it was red and had cream colour leather, the guy asked if it was Petrol or Diesel, he said he didn't know as his assistant fills it up....I sniggered in the background....the man turned to me and asked what I was laughing at....I told him I find it laughable that he has spent upwards of £70,000 on a car he knows absolutly nothing about, just to impress the neighbours.

I think LR shouldn't sell Range Rover to anyone who can't answer basic questions on the heritage of Land Rover, the design and developement of Range Rover, and have atleast a basic knowledge of its functions....

It gives all us genuine LR/RR drivers a bad name seeing one of the worlds best vehicles being driven by uncaring, disrespectful numptys....

Hats off to all L322 owners who love their vehicles because it is a Range Rover, because it carries forward the Land Rover heritage and because it will always be the class leader.....and not becuase it is 'the vehicle to be seen in'.....

ive had more than a fair share of land/range rovers over the years:):( but to be honest my l322 vogue:D is a totally different machine to understand compared to all the classics and p38s ive owned which are easy fixable,im sure fellow l322 owners would agree imo.
