Just got my new spare wheel carrier (genuine LR) bolted on to the back door, also got 2 new genuine LR nuts for alloy wheels as well (After snapping 2 studs off the old carrier, only one nut was salvageable).Now comes the problem - the 2 new nuts won't fully tighten down on the wheel; I think they're at the end of their threads, but I wasn't going gorilla on them to try and snap any more studs. The old nut fully tightens OK. Interestingly, the old nut has a little dome on the top of it whereas the others have flat tops. I would have thought that the nuts used for the roadwheels and the ones for the carrier are identical?

I suppose I could source some thick M14 washers to use as spacers....

As u have found road nuts are different from the spare nuts which are deeper internally no more than 10mm so do tighten down on the spare wheel.
Two of my spare wheel nuts are as u discribe, also I have a key style locking nut using the key removes the spinning cover.
That's why road wheel nuts come in packs of 20 so 5 x 4 you could try a a rubber spacer on the stud first then fit the wheel the nut only have to be tightened to stop the wheel moving so not that tight.

The nuts if u require them do have a part number, I found it once as I needed a replacement and posted it in a previous thread on this subject, so u have been supplied with the wrong nuts.

Just seen your thread is under the D2 section so forget the above as my info is for a D1

Yep D2 spare wheel nuts are different to road wheel nuts hence the little dome on the end, M14 washers will work or cut the end off your nuts lol sounds painful

I put nuts on first flat face out then put wheel on then more nuts.

This way I can adjust the wheel so its just away from the door.
