As above i am thinking after many many years of the green oval ownership evrything from 1949 series 1 to my td5 disco question is i am being drawn to a bmw x5 basically as i am getting older fixing faults is less attractive,however my budget including what i might get for my disco is around 7000 gbp,so do i keep the money i might spend in purchase for a rainy breakdown day or would an x5 be more or less likely to be reliable i feel it might but nothings perfect,so what do folk think,i am theoretically able to anything to my disco but getting on in years i do not want a big breakdown to sort, over to you.

You're right, the older you get, the less enjoyable it is crawling under and fixing.

How much do you still need the offroad capabilities? Looking at reliability tables, Toyota always come top....

We use the disco around farms riding schools logging etc. so no great mud plugging but offroading capability a must also towing fairly large ifor williams.

If you want an X5, then buy a more classy motor , L322 Rangie which the **** X5 was copied off

well you can do almost everything to the Landy, just leave the harder jobs to someone else now, you never know after that long living with a Landy you may miss the odd tinker.

I have arthritis in my spine and it's a real struggle to work on my Disco at times but I still enjoy it and get great satisfaction from having done the job myself.

Decided to stay with the green oval keep my manual for a while yet may eventually go for an auto if i can find one with the ashcroft upgraded torque converter.
