Thank fook I cant find my lump hammer

Replaced both the clutch master & slave cylinders on the s3 yesterday with Lucas parts & now Ive come to bleed the thing, it seems the brand new master is blocked with no fluid leaving the cylinder. Took off the single outlet pipe on the master & its bone dry with not a drop going to the slave.
Really peeved as Paddocks etc are closed & landy is booked in for a new exhaust on Tuesday

Could this in any wierd way be an air issue or is the thing really stuffed?

out of question, isn't there a control rod on the master ?

have you checked where thats at ?

Had a look at the rod & seems to operate through its full travel when the clutch is depressed so I dunno

... clutch cylinder.... is it the same as series clutch cylinder? if so, there will be no fluid going down by itself. you either bleed it properly (which is a pain in the arse) or with ezbleed or by suction at slave cylinder.
becuz your first post sounded about right for the clutch master behaviour

I cant see it being anything overly complex given that its just a simple hydraulic pump, were all the surfaces clean when you replaced it i.e. no dirt got into the system that could block the master ?

just seen the above post, theres a video for bench bleeding a master on youtube and you can bleed without an ez kit just need a bottle and some pipe

me = idiot. just seen it's S3
so, if you disconnect the hose leading to clutch master, top up the fluid, and let someone else pump the clutch, it's not spilling fluid?

Make sure that there is free play in the master cyl operating rod with the pedal at rest. If there isn't any free play the center valve will be shut and no fluid can flow through the master.

Had done this with nowt pushing thru & then lo & behold, a mate popped in who did some time as an old school recovery man. He held his finger over the outlet & told me to pump like hell And then...........success! Fluid came thru & its now nicely bled with a good old calf developing pedal feel to it!
And yes, the fluid squirted all over

So apologies to Lucas for ****ting their good name & I admit to being a hydraulic dickhead Thanks boys for the input!

next time get a syringe and a hose and put it to the slave. no need for pumping then

+1 Had to do this to a couple of discos to wake everything up

oil can with clutch fluid in it, connect to slave bleed nipple with a bit of flexi pipe and pump.
back bleeds to resovoir until full then nip up your nipple.

works well, cheers johnny on here, used it a few times now
