Righteo, Im Planning On Fitting A Snorkel To My Landrover 90 2.5TD, And Was Wondering Which Of The Vents (I Have One On The Side And One On The Top Of The Passenger Side Wing) Is For The Air Intake???
Had A Peruse Around These Forums And Not Found Anything, (May Be Wrong But It Was A Quick Look) So Could Anyone Help A Lill?

the one on the side of the wing is the air intake for the engine.
the one on the top of the wing is the air intake for the heater.

hang on a wee minute...

what year is your TD? if its a TD and not a TDI then you have had a replacement wing at some point and your air intake may not be attached to the wing. I believe the side wing vents only came about from 200tdi onwards. (am i right?)

your air intake will be from the air filter housing. have a look at it and see where its drawing air from, if there is a length of hose on it that goes to the wing, then just connect the snorkel to that. if not, then your going to have to customise it to fit/work. remember that the whole snorkel thing has to be well sealed at every point. its no good just bolting it to the wing and forgetting about it. test the snorkel connections 1st in a bucket of water, feel for air escaping on the hose run toward the snorkel, make sure the air filter housing is sealed etc etc. the final test is an airtight bag over the top of the snork whilst the engine is running. if your snork has a good seal, it should cut the engine out.

anyway, im going on abit now :) so 1st just check where yours is drawing air from.

would crankin up th heater blower and then listnin for which vent is makin the racket?that would eliminate one vent?thus leavin th rite on for ya snorkel?

easier to stick a bag over the top of the wing top vent If it cuts the engine out it's the air filter vent. If it dunt it's the heater fan inlet.

not if the pipe that goes from the vent to the air box has gorra fookon great hole in it, like what mine has!

anyways, I fort TD and 200TDi wuz the same as regards wing vents?

maybe tre manybe not. my NA didnt but that was an old un. whats all this about bags and which vent? the one ontop of the wing is always the heater one. the question is, is the side wing vent connected to his air filter housing or not... because its pointless connecting a snorkel to it, if the engine draws air direct from the housing (as it was on my old NA and also the same on V8's).

Top wing vent is for interior heater.

Side wing intake is for TDi engines and later, engine intake. The 300TDi intake was on the driver side, the 200TDi is passenger.

If you have a TD then the wing is NOT the original, but it does mean you have a convenient hole pre cut for your snorkel.

The air intake for the 2.5 TD is in the wing side, but the whole set up leeks like piggin ellers and if your going to use the snorkle in anger then I'd work out some other arrangement.

50%.JPG2.5 Td air intake.

Some rare ex mod landys mainly 110's have the top heater intake vent as the intake as part of the m o d snorkel, and a series III heater vent in the front of the wing, just to confuse the matter that seems to be the neatest way but requires lots of extra plumbing! Jai

They're not rare. They're standard on all MOD N/A 90/110's. I have a load if pictures and measurements if anyone wants to see them.

Any chance of a pic of under the bonnet I'm trying to source a suitabe wing vent and the hose for the heater intake. I have made a snorkel to go through the wing and its sweet but i left off my heater intake and now get the fumes as its not 'clean air' its taking in engine fumes. failing that I was going to draw air in from behind the intercooler. But the mod option does look very neat and tidy using series III stock parts.

If you take you radiator cowlything off, spin the top of the air filter housing round so the outlet is pointing parrallel with the radiator, get some guttering fall pipe an cut a bit that will go across the width of the vehicle with one end attached to the air filter and the other end under the offside wing, get a fall pipe elbow and some more pieces of fall pipe an then a couple more fall pipe elbows to take the fall pipe up through the hole in the offside wing, then some more fall pipe another elbow an yet more fall pipe an you can get the fall pipe pointing up the windscreen bit an all you need then is a goldfish bowl to finish the whole thing off.

Oh One Last Lil Thing On My Part Of The Post....How Do You Get The Ruddy Air Vent Cover Off, Not Held In By And Screws And Not Risking Pulling At It If I Know There Could Be Another Way???

screwdriver to pry it open, but likely to damage the clips that hold it there! As I found out yesterday. So be careful, it aint hard to move
