Everyone should get cool stuff on their birthday.

lol yanks can keep the osprey's -it looks kool but got the worst flight safety record in aviation!!

Without being an armchair politician, all that would happen if we just Nuked the place or whatever would make the country a perfect breeding ground for insurgents. The population who would be turned against us, would be after money to survive, and this would be provided by joining terrorist organizations, and farming opium. Both these things, would increase the threat to ISAF countries.

The idea behind looking after the local population, is that they will choose to be on our side, as opposed to the insurgency. We do this by funding local projects, providing work etc, also by subsidising the cost of grain, so that farmers are less motivated to grow opiates. Progress is unfortunately slow, but there is at least, some progress. Which is far more than can be said for every other unwelcome visitor the country has played host to in the last 150 years.

That said, the people are backwards, and it is a ****hole, so building a huge wall with barbed wire and armed guards around the country might be an idea....

I think they had the right idea. Wait for the landy to get blown up, and then roll it back onto it's wheels again and drive away lol

Reason for us having lower aviation safety record is because they have so macuh more aircraft, therefore chances of an incident are greater. We don't even have an aircraft carrier !!!!!

I remember talking to a local farmer /war lord about driving in his area.

After some conversation he said "Why would I want to grow grain? I can grow poppy and make 100 times the price of grain! " I can't sell grain because you are giving it away free to everyone"

Made perfect sense why would they bother!

wow -can of worms!

the country is already a perfect breeding ground for insurgents as its an islamist state.
this is a fact, one of the fundamental 'pillars' of islam is to convert all non believers by force if nessecary!?

the population are already against us.
due to its tribal nature, we are foreigners therefore we are invaders -even though we're there to help?!

we + the us already provide the country's population money to survive through our foreign aid budget since the country has no trade gdp income.
due to their backward nature, all they care about is money.
the insurgency have it.
we have it.
the only difference is we pay them more not to be terrorists.
And as soon as we leave in 2014, the insurgency will be paying them.

Every visitior to the country is unwelcome;

in the last 150 years the russians built factories, markets, infrastructure etc then in the '70's the US built roads, infrastructure, wells, electricity plants, +gave them farming equipment + healthcare + education to maintain/ use the equipment.
as soon as they left this was quickly discarded as they couldnt afford to maintain any of it + the greedy warlords took control of it + would charge thousands of dollars for its use.

We cannot help these people because they do not want to be helped.

all they want is money + we cant afford to look after our own country let alone afghanistan.

lol, i meant that aircraft had the worst aviation safety record -they tend to corckscrew out of the sky ALOT!

We still have HMS ARK ROYAL + OCEAN.

Its VSTOL airframes to launch from them that we lack, thanks to BAE + the government, our harriers werent upgraded in line with the US.
so all ours are well past their sell by date + the yanks are still going strong.
+ yet again, our new replacement for the harrier is years behind in terms of production + hugely over budget.
