Just changed my duff starter motor for a lovely barely used bosch one. This was on saturday which I then drove round and it worked fine until I came to start it this morning.

It gave about half a turn then stopped.I gave it a few more tries which followed with smoke coming from tranny tunnel through the handbrake gaiter. So I called it a day and got the tram.

Any thoughts?

Is it completely fecked?

Cheers, Joe.

when we changed engines not so long ago we forgot to put the main earth back on , just below the starter motor to chassis it sounded like the battery was flat , then followed up by smoke through the handbrake its a pretty sure sign the earths bad ............. dont keep trying to turn it over or may well fry your internal wiring .............

Fair enough, the earth strap going to the alternator probably just has some crap on it in that case then. I shall clean!

cant see it being the alernator one best thing to do is check the all the main earths first ie take them off clean them replace them try the one under the starter first i bet its full of road crap
