Hi

Can anyone help ?

I have had my 1988 90 td for over a week and have still got this occasional smoke problem which I posted here before. I have read up on lots of previous threads but can't quite get myself a good answer.
I have changed the oil, oil filter and air filter, oil level just under max. water level fine.
Engine starts really easy and has plenty of power for it's age.
Does not hardly smoke at all when driving normaly.

Twice, when starting up the engine it has given out clouds of white smoke, I have driven it 1/3 rd mile up the road to try and clear it but not to far, as I live on a main 'A' road and the smoke could cause an accident from someone behind or I could die of embarrasment. I presume that if I drove further this would eventually clear.
When parked up for a few hours I start up the engine and all is fine again. This happened once when the engine was cold, first start in the morning and once again when hot after testing after serviceing. Can anyone give me a clue as to the fault.

hi i have the same problem with my 1988 90 everyone ive spoke to about it says dont worry its just excess diesal or something to do with the cold start on the landy.mines bellows out white smoke on start up and dissappears after 10 secs if i leave it 10 mins then start again i have a little puff of smoke and then thats it.its all part of owning a landy..if its doing it when your driving along then i suggest you have someone look at it..if its just on startups dont worry this is what ive been told

My only concern was the amount of smoke even after driving for around 1/3 mile up the road. If as you say it's nothing to worry about I can live with it.
Next time it happens I will carry on driving until it stops, and see how long it has taken to clear.
I will then report back to this thread.
One thing I thought it could be was a faulty glow plug or a diesel injector letting diesel by after the engine has been stopped and then sometimes when re started unburned fuel was in the cylinder.
Perhaps I should give it a few more days and see what happens.
