Just a quick show and tell really!

Had my Defender 300Tdi 90 CSW since Christmas now.

So far it's had:
New cross member
Multiple chassis welds
12000 mile engine service
Handbrake rebuild
brake service
Clear lights all round
Black chequer sills and rear bits

I have also removed the defender stickers from both sides using a heat gun & meths to remove the glue.

All in all I think that it is looking fairly tidy now. There is a fair few spots of bodywork that I want to tidy up, but it's not really the weather for that at the moment!

What security do you have mate as its all good having a nice truck witch yours is btw but with no security it's only a matter of time b4 they try to have it away
 
Thanks - the colour is Arizona Blue. Not sure if you can see on the photos, but I have resprayed the window mounts using aerosols that I got from Autopaint St Helens (they were the only bits I could get off and the weather is awful at the mo).

Looking at touching up all the bad bits over time.

Other (styling) bits that I want to sort are:
Side steps (rail type)
KBX Grille
A-Bar
Steering guard
 
think the wheels are called freestyle they where fitted to discoverys and some defenders

you might want to add timing belt change to your 'soon to do list' unless you know when it was last done, and then time to get that newly welded chassis well protected

Landy jobs never get to the 'all done' stage:D
 
Thanks for the info SH. The chassis looks to have been protected by the guys that did it thankfully.

As for the timing belt, is this a big job? I had enough trouble replacing the fan belt tensioner bearing!
 
Timing Belt - big, no not really, but does need some specialist tools, needs to be tackled in the right order and the crank pulley bolt can be a bugger to undo

Pins are needed for the flywheel and injector pump to hold their settings, a special spanner to get the fan off is helpful, and a tool to lock the crank pulley in place to undo the bolt is useful

There are workarounds for all these tools,but if buying you're looking at about £100 - £120 for the lot

Any idea what this would cost to be done by a garage. Also, could any garage do it or would it need to be a LR specialist?

I'll be honest, it sounds like a step too far for me at the moment! Let alone the tool expense.
 
As ever depends where you go and where you live.

Parts c£80 (assuming you replace pulley and oil seals at same time rather than just the belt)

Labour independent garage c£200 - £300


if you go to a main dealer will be nearer £900 all in:eek:
 
I go to an independant every time. There are a couple of good ones around here (Luton) but there are others elsewhere. Many are staffed by LR trained guys turned enthusiasts and they are great.
When the steering box failed in an earlier Disco they (Autoland in Houghton Regis) were half the LR price. It meant the replacement steering box was a recon and they kept my knackered one to recon it but I was very happy.
 
Oh! Forgot to say your 90 looks great! I cant help but think that chequer plate on the sills is 'gilding the lily'. Surely rock/tree sliders would be better and would stop car door damage in supermarket car parks.
