my eas all works ok but takes its time to raise up, sometimes a couple miles before its at normal ride height, can hear the compressor working but does sound a tad loud. could it just be the compressor worn?

Almost certainly...

An extremley knowledgable chap on hear (Datatek) who seems to know almost all things P38 has passed on several times a very simple check to see if the EAS Compressor is pullings its weight.....

  • Open the Plastic lid covering the EAS Compressor and valve block
  • Un-bolt the compressor from its rubber mounts
  • Un-do the Blue plastic output airline from the compressor
  • Either turn the Vehcile engine on or if you have some cable, run the compressor direct from the battery
  • Place thumb over the air outlet port, a good compressor should make it nigh on impossible to seat the thumb due to air pressure (don't panic it is not going to take your thumb off as it is not a high volume pump just high pressure)
  • If you can put your thumb over the hole with little resistance, the piston seal is knackered or the cylinder bore is scored.

Luckily all is not lost, you can get replacement Teflon seals and new cylinder liner from Fleabay for less than £20.

A recon pump will be upwards of £125-150.

If the system, once it is up, sinks over night, I would look at the suspension air bags, as they may be leaking, they usually have a life of around 6 years (70-80k miles) so may well be worth checking out, as if you replace the compressor parts, and it is going to have to continually run to replace leaking air, it isn't go to last too long before it goes again.

If after carrying out the above 'Thumb' check and the compressor is working well with good pressure, look for leaks in the air bags, or valve block....some valves in the block don't seat propoerly due to a tiny amount of dirt caught within.....

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Please make a search with EAS, there's over 100 threads about your subject specifically : "slow to raise"
It's not as simple as a worn compressor.

No need too depressurize to take the compressor airline off as it is held on the valve in the valve block.

Guys, repairing the compressor is the visible part of the iceberg.
If your comp has been screwed it's because of airleaks.
If your P38 is low on the morning it's because of airleaks either at the springs or at the valve block.
If your P38 is slow to raise from access to standard setting it's because of airleaks on the valve block that empties the air tank, then your compressor overworks and it's screwed.

996turbo....

I did mention the Airbags and Valve block in my First post....it's just the compressor is the easiest thing to check first off...

Sluggish EAS is almost certainly a lack of air pressure, simple as that. Tired compressor either caused by age or a leak. Leaking diaphragm valve. Leaking NRV 1. Will cause lack of air pressure.

Take note of all the above,if it is your compressor, then landroverwinkel.nl have a repair kit which I have on trial at the moment. So far it has performed impecabily.Hope this helps.

The Dutch seal does not like cold weather. See they are selling RSW Allcomms at 299.0 euro plus tax, plus post. That's £260.00 plus tax and post. From Storey it's $295.00 that's £187.00 and if you get stung for Vat £224.00 plus post. Someone is making a killing looks like.
