I am looking to purchase a 90 defender with the view of converting it to LPG, is there a engine swap that is feasable and can increase my fuel economy. The landy will be for day to day use not towing and very rare off road use. Any thoughts?

Hi Simon

Welcome to landyzone. What sort of age and price are you looking at? What do you intend to use the vehicle for? What sort of distances are you talking.

A V8 petrol defender with lpg (56p per litre 15mpg) will work out roughly around the same to run as a 200tdi, 300tdi or td5 denzel (£115 per litre 28-35mpg).

Your cheapest option is to buy a denzel and run it on 50% veg oil. (78p per litre) which will give you an average cost of 97p per litre for the 50/50 mix.

200 tdi and 300 tdi can run on veg oil fine. I don't know about the td5 though.

Ive a 2.5 N/A will this run ok on a 50/50 mix or do i have to change anything Thanks All

yep.

nope.

Just don't jump straight in at 50%. start of at around 10-25% and gradually increase the doseage.

I went from 25% to 33% to 50% with no probs.

av been mostly running at near 100% on Tesco SVO in a few 200s for many many miles now - just thin it with petrol when it's cold (or just use normal diesel)

plenty of people round here run the NA on high ratios without issue

How much petrol do you put in to thin your vege oil? I have always been dubious about doing it.

I have read a little over tha last few days and it seems that the older the car the better it will run on VO so do I get a series III or a defender 90?
