Hi this is my first qestion so go easy and i'm a complete novice with Landys. I noticed today that i had a slight wurring sound which i think is coming from the gear box, the noise stops when i push the clutch down. Any ideas as to what it might be?

Sounds like it could be the thrust bearing that sits on the main shaft coming out the gearbox? Sure someone will correct me if its not.

I agree. Clutch bearing.

A common cause is sitting at traffic lights wiv yer vehicle in gear and yer foot on the clutch.

are you saying it's fine to run it with the wurring sound will it get worse? I brought the Landy to tug a small caravan and i'm using it every day as my runner round. I dont suppose any of you lot know a good machanic in the Nottingham area.

lets put it this way.......

My X-T had a noisy release bearing when I bought it - 4 years and 30K miles later - it still wurrs :D.
