....or so I thought! My glass fell out, saw that the clip was broken off at one end so bought a new one and fitted it easy enough but how the feckety ****ety bollox do I clip the glass back in place????? Haynes says "Carefully clip the glass back into position, ensuring that it is securely retained by each the clips". Will it clip back in place? Will it hell! Any top tips here before I end up busting the glass or the new clip? :violent: :eek: :eek: :confused:
cheers

i had to do mine and it was a bit of a ****e i ended up braking the clip i then glued it back together it eventually went in by pushing the centre part and slightly rocking the glass but i hope i dont have to do that again

I'm going to have to do this on my wife's new Disco "Dora" as some kind soul drove into her and broke the glass.

I'veordered the plastic mounting frame and having had a look at it I plan to:

1. Operate the mirror mechanism to angle the support plate in towards the car;

2. Fix a length of cotton thread or similar to the mounting plate outer fixing lugs;

3. Slip the new mirror into the inner mounting lugs whilst holding the cotton thread;

4. Then put a bit of tension on the thread to open the outer mounting lugs whilst pushing the mrror into place.

All fine in theory - we'll see...................................

Cheers and good luck

Just another simple cotton thread related tip !!

If when putting the mirror mounting plate onto the swivelling mechanism of the mirror housing, you need to engage two white nylon arms with balls on the end which go into the sockets on the plate.

These arms will try and come undone as you mount the mirror, so my little tip is - wait for it!!! - tie cotton thread round the white arms and the mounting frame so that they can't become dislodged.

Why cotton thread why not steel wire? Because cotton thread rots and disappears whereas metal metal will cut through the nylon arms !!

There will be other thread-related threads, just you wait and see

As everyone seems to have lost the thread of this thread thread, I thought I'd just add that I did it! Without thread too. Used a thin broad bladed dining knife with a little flex in it. managed to pop the clip in fairly quick. :drum: :beer2:

Did mine today as well in a shop carpark, whilst waiting for my wife to come out of the shop (could be 5 mins, more likely 5hrs).

Got bored waiting so I though I would have a play with the mirror, unfortunately didn't have any cotton thread with me so had to do it without.

2 mins of careful pressing as she's as good as gold, so's the car:D - happy bunny again.

Cheers all, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
