hey i`ve got the rangy running all seems well, the chap i bought it from said he suspected the head gasket on its way out, i`ve drove it only a short distance and all seems well, top hose isn`t rock dont get me wrong it is hard, there seems to be some form off copper in the water though, oil seems nice and clean no sign of water, is there anything obvious i should be looking out for? or should i just drive the thing and cross my fingers ?
cheers

If it ain't broke the don't fix it! Drive it and listen and watch for any changes in noise or fluids. Have your AA membership on stand by!!

In my case the h/g went bye bye without any symptoms before, was driving fine then suddenly a missfire occured then steam blowing fromt the tail pipe, ended up replacing them and skimming the heads, paid 400$ for it.
just drive it until it throw things at you, keep your eyes on your coolant and overheating and enjoy it.

sounds like its got k-seal in the water mate like radweld but bit better, its for hgf

cheers for the replies !
yeah im just going to drive it and let it go or hopefully not, this k seal stuff hmm i wonder could this have cured the problem ? or does it just do a patch up job to get you to a garage ?

It is for small water leaks in general don't believe the crap in the bumf about it curing blown head gaskets, it won't, simple as that. It may slow down a water leak on the head gasket but that is all. Nothing will cure a blown head gasket apart from an new one.

yeah i was thinking that, i will drive it and let time and miles decide, obviously i dont want to cook the engine,as a head skim and new gaskets isn`t as big as a replacement engine but will take things easy just to be sure, local garage quoted me 1900 quid for head gasket and reskim, seems crazy i think they dont want the job, most garages just fit new parts seems noone likes doing proper mechanical work these days.thanks for your reply.

Even at my age and with all the ailments would do one of those a week at that money. Just to keep my hand in you understand. It's not that no one wants to do it. It's there are not a lot about now who CAN do it.:):):)

just ran it for 30mins at high revs, temp gauge went halfway, top hose pretty hard whiteish smoke i`m almost certain, thing is do i take the plunge and try it myself as i cant justify the garage bill, i bought it as a project and winter vehicle, my thinking is is i drive it till it goes then take it from there, does anyone have any experience reg hgf and how long they hold out for, if it would last till march its earned to stay just dont want to spend loads on it the now as its shabby and owes me £700 already still no mot or tax on it

drive it for about 5 miles and see if the top hose is twice its normal size and rock hard, if so its fooked and you will have to fix it- if not all is probably well..

let us know how u get on!

a see so basically there no hiding it, i`ve had it running high revs for 30-45 mins and hose size didnt change need to get it mot 1st you see before a test drive

well roll on tomorrow, i`ll go up a dirt road, either way at least i`ll no, i bought it as a non runner was suoerlocked and no eka code, fault was drivers door actuator wiring, so im getting there reg it but only ever drove it say half a mile then reme, bered no tax or mot, ;-( just got a pain in ass oil leak to fix now

yeah , better to know now than getting stuck on the motorway. but run it for ages!

No need to go out and knacker it up just take the plugs out, any that are getting water to them will be clean.
