Ok, so I currently have a 300tdi Defender 90 coming up to about 100k miles.
I have money set aside for a galv chassis as it would pass this mot coming up but it's had work done on it before.
Now, would it be worth having it put in to get the new chassis swapped on (about £3000 once completed)
Or selling my baby and buying a newer td5 ?
I've herd more problems with the td5 reliability wise
But I would like to swap to a csw, but also that's something I could have done anyway.
So yeh, opinions ?

Also, what sort of value should I expect for my current landy ?
It's in decent nick apart from some peeling paint, solid bulkhead
Cheers

Any td5 you buy will probably need the chassis doing soon aswell. Stick with the 300.

My local independent says that he is really busy with farmers coming in with their TD5s and TDCIs and seeking to sell them to swap for TDIs that they then get reconditioned with galv chassis and new bulkheads etc... The farmers want to TDIs as they are easier to fix and reliable so they are just getting them put on new running gear and moving on!

Hi keep it and get the chassis changed !! We do a full chassis rebuild on that model and it's usually around £1500 done!! It can go up if you have new shocks etc !! It's a good time to have polly bushes etc fitted !! We always use new copper brake pipes throughout , new bolts on all mounts etc !! A td5 is a nice thing , but it rots just as bad if not worse , there's tons more wiring and electronics to fail , etc !!! Before you do anything get a price for the welding that's needed , don't go to a town / city garage, they want millions of pounds !! Find a proper Landry mechanic !! We do welding almost every day ! I'd be surprised if it was that bad that it couldn't be put right in a day or two !! It may look bad to the untrained eye but you will be surprised what can be repaired to as new or better condition !! Better the devil you know !!!!!!!!!! Good luck ! If you need a phone no to get it sorted pm me!!!!!!

Thanks for all the replies guys, that was pretty much my first thought. Wanted to see if anyone had some wise words to throw into the mix.
And also, it's my first landy, would need to be a good offer to prise her away from me !
Since it would be a galvanized one ( that price also includes galvanizing the bulkhead ) means I shouldn't need to worry about that ever again !

Anyone got an idea of what it's worth ? Would like to see how it compares to what I paid.
Thanks
Parky

6-7k with a galv maybe

To put CSW windows in its not hard either chop out the van sides and insert or replace the whole side panel with ones from a breaker. Not a big job

For putting in the csw windows, would I need to let the dvla know ? And how much hassle is it to have it changed over if so ?
Will it affect the insurance much ?

I've had my 92' 110 station wagon since new and I've already decided that, when the time comes, I'll ge the beast re-chassied. As some one else has pointed out. Better the devil you know and with 184K on the clock I'll know its been regularly and properly serviced.

My sister has a 91' 110 with an incredible 340 K on the clock. Its a shed on wheels but they've been advised to spend £ 4-5,000 on getting it properly sorted as once its done they'lll have a good un and they're gettign hard to find at a reasonable price.

Yeh, I've decided to keep my beloved daisy, and spent the money which will also put her on new bushes and a new clutch since it's all out anyway.
Just need to find the csw roof and sides and I'll have what I want !
Cheers for the advise, hopefully she will last to 300k + miles :)

When I added windows to mine it increased insurance slightly with adrian flux, however other companies won't touch the car now it's got modified windows. I'm considering swapping back, as i havent got rid of my van sides yet and so insurance will be cheaper as more options.

It's a bit based on honesty though, comparing my v5 to a mates who's was factory with windows, there's no difference.

Yeh, that doesn't surprise me, insurance companys are all scams anyway and rip you off at any opportunity !
What about putting them down as a replacement part ? Herd you can get away with some stuff like that.

I'm driving a 2000 plate TD5. Im over the 120K, no problems that I know of.
The chassis has had a patch on an out rigger, new x-member, new galv bullhead & new doors all round. Not that it all needed replacing, i just like it to look mint. Waxoyled and oil changed twice year regardless of miles.

Stick with what you have and keep on top of it. At least you know where you are and what has / needs doing.
