Could anybody tell me please with my knob shakes quite vigorously when idling? If you put your hand on it at traffic lights it vibrates like mad!!!

Ahem, I am of course referring to what the americans would call their stick shift...my transfer knob also shakes though:)

With a handle like "twice nightly" and a thread entitled "shaky knob" I guess you're a Carry On film fan.

Yes, I'd check your mounts. Does the engine pull okay otherwise?

Is it automatic, or manual? Does it do it only in gear or in neutral? Is it only when the engine idles, or does it do it if you rev the engine when stationary?

Yeah along wiv years of reading Viz whilst on't night shift!

The Disco is a 300tdi manual and the gear knob shakes like mad only when idling, it shakes in neutral (clutch in or out) and in every gear with the clutch in. When it takes up the drive in gear the shaking stops.

The lever feels tights with no sloppiness, but know you've mentions mounts/bolts I have notice when you switch the igntion off there is a shudder and clonk from underneath roughly under where the gear lever is, I thought this was the exhaust a bit loose but maybe it's to do with this.

Are the bolts obvious when you look underneath? Is it the bellhousing end I'm checking?

Many thanks

I think the only way is to get down and dirty and have a look. I guess you're right, it could be a wobbly exhaust.
