Hi all.
Following a rechassis and rebushing, the bodywork on my 1985 2.5n/a vibrates a lot more on idle than previously - enough to rattle the bonnet. It's running well, and once off idle all is well.
The old engine and gearbox mounts were completely shot, so this looks like the obvious reason, but I wonder if there is a solution? I have upped the idle speed a bit which helps, but it's not really the answer. I wondered if I were to loosen the mounts and run the engine, would it settle any tension left from the rebuild? Any thoughts/experience appreciated.

What make were the engine g/box mounts?
I ask as its common to fit tdi lump in series motors and cure for engine vibes is oe defender tdi engine mounts as rubber is more pliable.

Thanks for this - I didn't do the rechassis, so don't know for sure. However, it's a top quality job, done by a friend, who doesn't scrimp. I had a look at them last night - looks like OE rubber. I'll google the glencoyne parts. I noticed on inspection that they used locking nuts (with a spread base and ridges) rather than the old nut/locking washer/flat washer.

If your bonnet rattles are the nylon bushes in the hinges a snug fit
I've cured bonnet noise with either a tap on the bulkhead lugs with a rubber mallet or new hinge bushes
This prob tends to appear on rebuilds where panels are in slightly different locations to original
Can't say it's gonna work but is an easy try
Lift off the bonnet and see how any harshness feels

It's not just the bonnet - the whole landy is gently vibrating. Carpet tiles stuck to the rear van sides have sorted that part, but the rest of the vehicle is vibrating with the engine, as though it were bolted direct to the chassis. I've put my hand to the engine - it's not moving any more than usual for an old NA. I have found another reference to the engine mounts above curing vibration problems and have ordered a set. Apparently they are softer than those usually supplied. Watch this space.
