Hi All,

I was driving home today and noticed my battery light came on and lost power steering. Thankfully I was only 1/2 mile from home. When I checked the serpentine belt was missing and coolant was dripping (heavily) from somewhere behind the water pump pulley area (I think), when I take the coolant cap off the reservoir it really flows out.
Could the serpentine belt coming off cause this? Maybe damaged a pipe or the water pump has failed? Any advice would be great.

It is a Defender 90, 300tdi.

Many thanks

pump seized, belt broke and how hot did it get. The pump has been sized for awhile would be my guess. Takes a bit of time for the belt to be worn through with the pulley

Thanks for the quick replies, the engine didnt get very hot before the belt came off, it didnt actually snap just popped off. Is the water pump easy to change, should I change anything else while im at it?

Cheers

its worth looking at the rear side where it bolts to engine block near back of alternator,of housing pump bolts to ,to see it p gasket has been leaking ,as the 3 lower wp bolts go right through to the block and can be tricky to remove
