On start up my 2004 range rover vouge displays select neutral,then the message slow down....it cancels out after driving off any answers anybody ?

Those messages relate to the transfer box receiving a signal to shift into Low Range.

Is the car in Neutral or Park when it shows up? Does it do it all the time? Has it just manifested itself or been there a long time?

Bemble's right, it seems to think you're trying to switch ranges, could be a faulty switch/sensor.

As soon as you start the vechile in park it chimes and displays the select neutral,then slow down..when you select drive a drive a few yards the message disappears but the arrows on either side of the display remain.

If an Auto car is in gear it won't start so it must be a faulty inhibitor switch or the selector slightly out of adjustment. Next time it does it try gently pushing/pulling the lever against the stop whilst in neutral without pressing the release button to see if the message goes away when stationary. Unplug and reconnect the sensor or as a last resort looks like a Testbook plug in to see if a fault is logged.
