they can allways be unseized by hitting the tube where thread sits in all around tube and full length of thread can be done with 2 hammers on the car or 1 hammer resting tube on vice anvil etc ,most dont learn how to mechanic nowadys
 
they blasted it with a torch till it was glowing and beat the near side within an inch of its life,

Was basicly told they cant do the tracking because the rods are buggered

Yes that's it that you need, because it'll solve today's problem and any future issues because they are made better.
 
if the rods were glowing then they have probably melted the nylon insert in the ball joint so they will be knackered anyway now there should be no need to heat them that far even beemer ones come loose easier than that

If I may suggest something?

Give the threads on the new ball joints a good lathering of Copper Slip before installing the new rods and you'll never have trouble adjusting them again.

You're right, but it doesn't seem to matter. Once they get so seized, nothing seems to budge them.

I had the same problem on a D2 I was working on - had to replace the rod.

Are you going to install yourself? It's a dead easy job.

Take the drag link (front bar) off first and adjust the new one to the same length and install; then do the track rod (back bar) just the same.

You'll need a spanner/socket the correct size to fit the ball-joint nuts; a ball-joint remover tool and a hammer. Undo the nuts and remove; install the ball-joint tool and apply some pressure with it; then give the end of the rod a sharp tap with the hammer and the ball-joint will fall away.

Your tracking will then need setting up properly, but they won't have any trouble at all undoing the fasteners !!!

can definitely recommend copper slip my 19 year old cavalier had to have new trackrod ends when I first got the tracking done as they were seized so I renewed them myself and copperslipped the threads when I put them back and ever since everywhere I have had the tracking done they have always stated I might need new trackrod ends as they could be seized and everyone has stated that it was easy to do and asked how I manage to keep them free. of course they never get told :D
