hi,
just got another disco, bought unseen, i know, i do it all the time,
anyway,
it's got a brand new battery fitted,
started up great drove it 12 miles and parked it on my driveway,
got in it 5 mins later, battery flat,
jumped it off my other disco, parked it on the grass to look at later,
tried it at 5am the next morning and it started fine,
got home from work it started fine,
later that evening went out, engine would barely turn over,
just tried it now and it started fine,
any ideas??????

Intermittent earth problem on the starter? I'd check the earth strap, sounds like it's making contact sometimes and not others.

thanks for that,
i was gonna check the starter wiring after a beer,
had a crappy day at work so need some refreshment first,

it's not flat, just struggles to turn the engine over,
the battery is fine,
was thinking it might be like a petrol engine when timing is out and trying to fire on say top dead centre instead of 12 btdc,

It's the main earth straps you need to check, battery to chassis, chassis to engine.

You can check by putting a jump lead from battery -ve to engine and trying to start

thanks guys,
gonna get stuck into it tomorrow and try and get it sorted once and for all,
might even swap starters over, got nowt else to do tomorrow,
