I’m trying to find a secure lockbox or safe I could install in my FL2 without it being a full boot sized box, or one of the centre console ones. I’m thinking something approx the size of a shoebox (or even a bit smaller) that I could fasten somewhere.

Does such a thing exist?
 
If something is risky enough to warrant needing a safe, but small enough to fit in something smaller than a shoe box, why leave in your car in the first place?
Just put ‘it’ the glove box out of sight, or the boot and pull the cover over - no one will know that ‘it’ is even there in the first place.

Something like a gun box would work. Possibly an ammo box would be smaller
 
Depending on level of security a money tin might be ok.
Leaving out of sight isn't always best as anyone who has access to the car,eg mechanics, may find it and you possibly wouldnt know straight away.
 
I think the spare wheel area might be the place. Having access to it whilst driving would actually be a negative. It’s to store knives/sharp things for some (legal) outdoor stuff I do where I may be parked up for a few days and I won’t have the items on my person for the full time, so want something secure but discrete. And somewhere the police couldn’t claim I had easy access to it if pulled over for any reason.

Was just curious if such a thing already existed, but looks like I’ll get creative with a locking box and the spare wheel space.

A knife genuinely carried for ‘bushcraft’ or similar would be ok at the bottom of your rucksack, locked in the boot.
I regularly have 3 or 4 shotguns in the car with me. Simply in the boot, unloaded and in gun slips (granted, they are not left unattended). You’d just need to be upfront if you were pulled over. And driving sensibly enough (demonstrating your responsibility) to hopefully not be pulled over in the first place!

As no one else knows a knife is in your car, again locked out of sight and in the boot would be reasonable enough, imho.

I think you’re over thinking/complicating it.
 
I somewhat agree with Freddie, but, society the way it is these days, if the knives where to be stolen someone would be asking why they weren't secure ?
