Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend a breaker who would stock second hand LR freelander engines 1.8 PETROL 1997-2000

Made great progress with stripping down my existing engine, HG had gone on cylinder one but the piston crown was badly pitted and the inlet valve was encrusted with white deposit. This was due to engine pinking.

Like most things I need the vehcile in action ASAP. So its the case of fit a second hand or reconditioned engine in the meantime and then replace the piston in the old engine (timely and cant wait that long).

Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks

rover 200 1.8 engine is the same, only difference is the sump on the rover engine doesn't have the bolt holes for the IRD bracket, probably be easier to get one of those rather than a freelander engine

try INFINICAR AUTOMOTIVE LTD 01344 426182 or look in the back of LRO mag, plenty of landy breakers in there

Thanks for that info, will check out LRO and Infinicar.

I was offered an elise engine from a local breaker. Would this be the same problem as the rover engine and can the sumps be easily inter-changed.

Cheers LR GUY will keep checking for a suitable K-series, although it seems that I had feared the worst.

When I got all the carbon deposits off, the piston crowns were like new.

Used Mr Muscle oven cleaner - loves the jobs you hate, it lifted every trace of grime in the cylinders although will dull the surface slightly due to the phosphates in the cleaner. but they polished up a treat. Going to use it for cleaning the gunk out of the coolant pipes

Be careful with that stuff... it eats aluminium engine parts for breakfast!

Thanks, Yeah didnt leave it on for too long, about an hour at most.

Its due to the aluminium phosphate forming. I certainly wouldnt advise leaving it overnight. But the corrosion would be nano metres for the time I used it for.

Why not have a look on Ebay for K series engines, used to be a few when I looked for MGF goodies.
