Story - bought 2005 RR back in 2022. The previous owner put a new battery from Walmart - EverStart H9, 950 CCA 3 month earlier. Year and half after purchase, beginning of 2024 battery died. Took it back to walmart and they replaced under warranty (they have 3 year warranty) and put new. This was Feb 2024.

This April left for extended overseas trip for 40 days. Car was parked in on a street. Upon return battery is dead. Called AAA, they came, jump started it but I could tell that something was off already based on how slow starting was. Took today back to walmart for test, yep - dead.

Supervisor at walmart did replace this time under warranty as well, and now they put EverStart Platinum AGM battery but told me that this was last replacement - if something goes wrong, I have to buy a new battery.

So my question is - what might be something there that causes battery to be dead after a year?
Well, expect the assumption that walmart batteries are crap?

You may have to use diagnostics to tell the car the battery has been replaced, not sure on your model. AGM is not good unless the car was designed for AGM. Check the voltage at the battery with the engine idling.

Both batteries are AGM. That could still be the problem. The car doesn't have the right charging profile. Plus the car needs Decent run to charge up, not just a couple of miles

Short journeys and lack of use...
If it's stop start vehicle then an Agm battery is a must, also a slow jump start could be their jumper pack, bad earths and a few things.
I would look into finding out if the battery management needs resetting as the ecu alternator may not be giving the correct return to maintain the battery properly. Also have the negative and positive heavy leads in the car checked for corrosion and continuity 🤔

Mine would also be dead after 40 days without a charge.
When the Golden Girl was a tad younger, and home to HQ was approx 500miles, I would leave her for 3 months or more. On coming back she would start first turn of the key. When her runs changed to little short hops or massive drives of 10 -20 miles. There are times I was charging the battery every week, and changing it yearly.

As mentioned no battery set up on the 2005 car but 40 days without use will kill it stone dead. You mite get away with 3 weeks even then special programmes will be off until it reached full charge.
Disconnect the battery next time and lock it with your 🔑
