Hi guys, looking to sew a couple seatbelt together to make some limit straps but cant seem to find any suitable thread.

I brought a huge needle which is way to big and some thread which is pathetic! :5bbeatdeadhorse5:

So has anyone got any info on what type of thread I need?
 
Try to find a sadler or a proper shoe repairer (not some spotty 'erbet who just glues soles on). See what thread they use.
 
Could you use the 'inners' from paracord? Each has a 50lb breaking strain and would be thin enough to be neat.
 
As well as the thread, I'd say the way you stitch them together is as important, have you got a machine or are you doing it by hand?
 
Cheers that gives me a couple possible avenues.
I was going to do it by hand, I plan to copy a pattern on a seatbelt i have or failing that find a guide somewhere.
 
Also, Kevlar thread is widely available now, from a stereotypical viewpoint it sounds promising. Whether it backs it up is a different story,
 
I would recommend using sail makers yarn, a palm and a pair of good, strong needles.

With webbing, we have found it best to use alternate up and down through the same hole with each needle.

Ours have never failed ... even though one of the strops did fail under load test, the stitching remained fully intact!
 
It's for my axle..
1 to limit the droop in the centre (to protect the UJ's)
1 for each shock, just a tad shorter then the max length so the shocks dont rip off.

Not the end of the world if they fail, but I'de like to not have to make them twice :)
 
If it was for something serious like bespoke seat belts, I would suggest ringing your local RAF station (if there are any left) and asking for "safety equipment section" but for what you want they would think you are taking the pee,

I wouldn't make my own seat belts, don't know enough about textiles n such.
