When putting in a new update disk it asked if I wanted to update firmware, not sure if I'd pressed yes but when I said this out-loud to my brother who had just put the disk in, said NO! and ejected the disk.

Now navigation button greys out after 1/2 secs and nothing happens. A white dot is showing in the top left hand corner of the Navigation button on the screen but the button is inoperable.
I’ve tried returning to the old disk but same thing. Searching the net I was advised to disconnect the battery and touch the cables together thus re-booting the electronics. This I have done but exactly the same – though clock and radio reset to defaults!

I saw another post which says 'fragmentation chip needs re-programming'. What / how / cost?
Should I just send the update disk back and buy a TomTom or Garmin?

Help any advice... Landrover dealers want £100+ just to look at it?

You should never interrupt a firmware update. Doing so can really foul things up (as you've possibly discovered).
