good morning guys and gals!

finally made it over to UK now and looking at different RR's so i can buy 1 :D

found a nice 1 but guy says sat nav not working. could this be something simple like buying a new unit for the boot? or could i be buying more trouble than its worth.

as usual, any remarks, good, bad or whatever greatly read :D:D:D:D

Pull the unit and see if it is plugged in - you never know could be a loose connection!!

Also modern mapping discs are hard to come by for the P38 and early CD based systems...!!

not been to see this 1 yet, just going on what the guy said over the phone to me. seems this is the only problem with the car, ATM! lol

don't worry too much about it - even when it works the mapping and way of inputting addresses (no post code option) makes it very old fashioned and even tho' mine does work I tend to use my Garmin instead.

If it's not working (on start up all you get is a white screen) then the head unit in teh boot is probably knackered. If you get nothing at all when you turn it on, as suggested, pull the unit from the boot & check it's plugged.

if it does work (you get a map screen) but the location or position of teh car isn't right, it's proably a problem with the gps antenna (on RH side under the scuttle panel, almost directly under teh drivers side wiper arm) but these seldom go wrong or it's a probelm with the receiver (under the drivers side boot trim panel, slightly above where teh gps head unit is).

On ine, it was the connection to the receiver, just took it off, cleaned it with fine steel wool, re-connected and it's worked fine ever since.

If you really want to get it working, the most expensive part is the head unit but you can get them for £200 ish from ebay (apparenlty the CARIN II system from BMW, fitted in 5 series also fits)
