Having just completed a 2500mile mini exped to the Catalan coast of France and Spain with my Sankey trailer, it was time for some modifications.
My initial build was simple but the trailer angled forward as seen in the pics. This was annoying but it still towed very well.
I also didn't get on with the cross bars for mounting bikes. I needed acess to the contents without having to unload everything, so a mod to the chequre plate lid included revised opening. This seems to work well now.
The draw bar has been removed and re-fitted onto the underside. This had made the trailer level but the first road test was a fail. The spare wheel on the back was now acting like a counter weight so the towing was affected, the difference was supprisingly dramamtic. I have now removed the spare wheel and fitted inside at the front along with 2 sand ladders. This provides the correct nose weight even when the trailer is empty. It now tows like a dream again.
I have lost some space inside and on the lid so i will have to forego some of the luxury items i have been taking.
Further tests are planned this weekend, i will keep the forum updated.

theres two on ebay in the roof tent section this one has a buy it now of £2500. ebay no 140255596113 looks a a bit dear to me

The sankey with tent on ebay looks like it would be very top heavy and the price is way over the top.
There is a good white sankey on ebay with the wheel mounted on the back, looks in good nick.
Mine has completed some more road tests across to pembrokeshire and back. All went ok but the chequre plate lid requires strengthening before i can get my bike mounted onto it. I will have to get the fag packet out again.
The overland trailer with Myway roof tent fitted on ebay looks good. Bet it goes for a bomb tho. I got quoted 10 grand by trekoverland for one of there trailers. Thats why i chose the self build option.

mine is a columbus variant small by autohome from BOAB but you probably new that. Cost 1100 quid which is loads of wonga. Took 6 months of propaganda to talk the wife into that one.

Yeh - if you go to BOAB.biz they have all the spec and pictures. Also Nene overland are UK distibuters.
Probably better off keeping an eye on well known auction site for used ones. They do seem to hold there value but they are still way cheaper than new and there isn't much to go wrong with them.

i got mine for a great price of £241.00 from ebay plus poastge from germany brand new only used it twice this year but a great tent solidly built comfy matress

My last roof tent was from Germany. I think it was called autocamp. It was probably 10 years old when i got it for 350quid. I still got 400quid when i put it on auction.
The fold out tents do have a few advantages like still allowing user to use some roof space and giving more living space. But they are a bit subseptable to windy conditions. I used my previouse tent in the Bavarian Alps and it coped with strong winds but just like a ground tent with a frame you have to choose a pitch carefully.

I think the white sankey on ebay would be a much better buy. A few hundred pound for the trailer, and then what ever you can spend on a camper build.
