After finding a well buggered pinion bearing I'm looking at doing an axle swap so I can get the Landy back on the road ASAP the thing is , is the axle I have spare is and old drum Salisbury where the one on is a disk Salisbury , do all I have to do to swap it is remove the gubbings from either end of each axle and swap it all or is there something to get in the way such as mounts needed for te disks that the drum don't have or vis versa ? , only thing I can think of is the drive shaft flanges ?

Cant fit discs straight on to a drum axle, wont fit
 
you need to swap complete wheel stations including half shafts ,you may need to clean weld up were caliper bracket bolts but they do fit ,you can drill hole in shocker mount for mudshield but i wouldnt bother refitting mudshields

Now I didn't know that James, I thought that the calipers wouldn't bolt on. Might use my old 110 salisbury axle on the 90 if calipers just bolt on...thanks:)
 
spring plates just swap ,the rover cases are a different length disc or drum ,not the salisbury

you can either swap all the bits from a 110 disc axle ,or buy the bits and fit them ,salisbury drum and disc axle case are the same apart from 2 x holes in shocker bracket to hold mudshields,i can give you a list of parts
 
Sweet planning on swapping everything across then rebuilding the other one up as a spare/ replacement with new parts including refurbishing the diff , so it will all swap apart from the mud shield (aka the stone catchers lol)
 
Sounds expensive, I will need too much so might as well get Disco axle and sell the salisbury drum axle.

90 axle good for now or will be when I get the new brackets welded on, new drums and linings and adjusters free so ok for test:)
 
disco axle would be cheaper ,youd probably get both 300 axles for the same price then have more choice of wheels

Just getting the 90 ready for test then scrapping my 300 tdi Disco so two very good axles with new discs and calipers, bearings etc available for the 90.

The 110 will have to go to the scrapman as well, its got no engine, gearboxes and only one axle so sadly another early 110 bites the dust.
Just havn't got the time and it's too blummin cold to be stripping parts in this weather.

Should be on te road by April:rolleyes::rolleyes:
 
Hang on !!!! ive got a drum sailsbury axle on the bench and am thinking of swapping everything off my disc axle as the drum axle has been shot blasted and painted.........But there are no luggs on the drum axle to fit caliper to
Was going to cut flange with luggs on off the disc axle and weld onto drum axle

of course there are no lugs ,salisbury uses ftc3306 bracket which bolts to inside of case flange using stub axle bolts x4 the other 2 use nuts as drum

dont throw the rear axle away if not in bad condition

Im starting the strip down tomorrow for the chassis change and had the axle down for flange change on tuesday, But will now have the axle on new chassis by tuesday :D:D:D

good :) you may need to clean up the weld a little for the bracket ,some cases were cleaned up better than others :)
