How can l get rust proofing product inside the bulkhead on my TD5 Defender?
I am talking about the parts where they usually rust out, below the windscreen at each corner.
l can't remove the hinge bolts as they have ball bearings hammered into them!
But l tried removing the screen hinge blanks only to find tubular steel spacers inside.
What about upwards with an extension tube via the courtesy light switch hole?
Any other, um, holes that l can put my extension tube in?
 
I pulled the blanked out wiper grommets (the ones for lhd wipers) and pumped loads of warm wax oil into the holes until it started running out the bottom of the door pillars.

Interior light switches like you say, and as Def90man says. I did mine before the bulkhead was built up so everything was easy to get too.
 
If you look up from underneath the car you should see a small drain hole at the bottom of the door pillar drill this out to a larger size and get the wax lance up inside.

TD5 bulkheads seem to resist rust better, l have not seen many that have rusted out.
 
Tbh Ive never looked under or even at a td5 defender just assumed its the same old.
 
I did mine before I fitted my doors but you could take a top hinge bolt out and blast some in there. I used the, as mentioned above, spray into the LH drive wiper hole method, the spray in via the door hinge captive nut hole method and the up the drain hole in the pillar methods. I think I also blasted some into the windscreen hinge holes - this was during a rebuild and access was a lot easier obviously. Also you can pop your door switches and spray it into the pillar that way too.

When I bought the BH brand new I seam sealed it all before painting it, then I sprayed in the Dinitrol - I was amazed at the locations it began weep and dribble from. I liked this though as it meant all the water routes were now also protected.
 
I'd try squirting waxoyl or some of that rust eating paint up from the door hinge fixing hole. There's plenty of room as I kept losing the captive nuts down the gaps when I changed them. Or even better the paint then waxoyl.
When I've finished mine gana paint all the underneath in that and then waxoyl all the axles etc. Pity can't be galv like the chassis!

The blanked off wiper holes do not go to the inside of the bulkhead but just to the back of the dash panel which is inside the vehicle.
Pumping waxoyl into this area is not the thing to do.
If you do want to include this area in you rust treatment I would suggest you take out the dash from inside the vehicle and brush the product on in this area.

I remember mate telling me his capiliary oil gauge piepwork failed on his 90 inside the dash, he reckoned it wasnt pretty!

Yes l found that out, l can't take the hinge bolts out so will try the door courtesy light switch hole.
