Today had the message gearbox overheat come up I've got an auto diesel p38 it also doesn't change properly through gears is it low on oil or something more serious ie torque converter or box help please

I don't know is it low on oil I can't reach the dipstick from here.
Why don't you take a look then you can tell us and we could tell you more on the info you give us otherwise it be other things!

Auto's don't like being low on oil and one of the main symptoms is dodgy gear changes. With the overheat it's probably worth doing an oil change.....there's a proceedure to follow....a search will bring it up

I don't understand why you have to be rude in your replies of course I know what adipstick is I've probably seen more than most people on here I was more interested in if it was more of a problem internally than just being low on oil obviously if its more than being low on oil I wouldn't have thought you would be able help me and quite frankly I wouldn't want help from you with the kind of up ringing you must have had. Please don't comment anymore as your input is not needed

I say, Jolly - you might find it better to post in the Rangy section, rather in general... there is a more refined class of gentleman in there - and you wont have to sully yourself with the ruffians and hoi Polloi.

I mean op come on you know what a dipstick is you obviously know low/ no oil is not a good thing if you had checked that first and then inquired .
It would not make you susceptible to ask a silly question expect a stupid answer
Ask it in the one that says RANGE RIVER I mean how simple could that be .
If you had said I've checked the oil and its within its marks then we have a good idear its not the oil I'm not physic am I .

If its not the oil start looking at the sensor and the wires

You asked for ridicule if you had done it in the rr section d I would of still said the same .

I have had the same fault for over a year now. It's the BECM module under the seat.
I wanted to work on it in the summer, but my other motor was off the road. Now the sensor that starts this off is on the oil cooler on the nearside, it has a blue wire coming away from it to a blue plug by the air filter and rad. If you switch off everthing and then plug the plug apart after pressing the lug in. then turn the ignition on and after it's gone through the checks the message is still there then most probably its the BECM playing up. Mine I run up the road till warm then switch it off, then restart it drives OK. That annoying bleeper can be disconnected.

I'm back ,Wife brought me food, So the bleeper is a large speaker behind the dash and instead of removing all the dash, you can get to the wire (Speaker wire red and black with white plug on instrument's rear) by removing the lower under tray( four screws). It would be a wise precaution to disconnect the battery (radio codes and resetting windows will need doing )and do not touch any wires wrapped with yellow or with yellow plugs (airbags). leave battery disconnected for an hour then start work. I managed to get to the wire after re building the whole dash. You can use a old wing mirror and a torch to light up behind the panel. The wire is the same size as speaker wire/bell wire. I have searched the web for repairers of these BEcms and only seen one in St Albans. I bought a RAVE cd from ebay and on it is the wiring diagram. This sensor switches to earth and then sends a negative signal to the BECM.

Or turn the sounder off with a diagnostic machine far simpler if I remember.
